Tattoo Care

After receiving your new quality piece of art, your care in healing your tattoo will affect the final result. Please follow all directions given by your artist carefully to get the best results. If you have any questions, please contact us! Your artist may give additional information as all people and tattoos do not heal the same. However, your care during the two weeks after receiving your tattoo is very important. Please care for your tattoo in the following manner:
In ______ hours, please remove bandage, throw the bandage away and DO NOT RE-BANDAGE!
Wash the tattoo gently with cool clean water, use anti-bacterial soap for the INITIAL wash. Thoroughly wash your tattoo until all traces of fluid and ointment are removed.
Rinse your tattoo with cool clean water to remove all traces of soap.
Pat, do not rub, with a clean towel to dry.
After initial wash, avoid water on the tattoo for 7 days. Bathe your body, not your tattoo. (Remember, do not re-bandage. Wrapping your tattoo in plastic to keep water off of it is NOT OK.
After ____ days, on ____________, start applying a lotion two or more times a day. Lotions that are recommended are Lubriderm or Dermassage. The lotion should be UNSCENTED and NOT have sunscreen. The lotion should be applied thinly.
Do a Kleenex test. After applying your lotion, take a clean tissue and press it against the freshly lotioned tattoo. If the tissue sticks, remove it and rub the lotion until thinner. Test again with a clean tissue. When the tissue does not stick to the area and falls freely, you have properly applied a thin coat of lotion.
After 7 days (on _____________ ) you may allow water on your tattoo.
For the first two weeks ( ________ to _________ )
DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH YOUR NEW TATTOO.
AVOID THE SUN ON YOUR NEW TATTOO.
DO NOT SUNBURN OR USE TANNING BEDS.
DO NOT SOAK IN CHLORINE, SEA OR OCEAN WATER, HOT TUB, JACUZZI, OR ANY NATURAL WATER WAYS.
DO NOT USE GREASY OR OILY OINTMENTS.
DO NOT SHAVE, SCRUB WITH A LUFA, OR USE HARSH DETERGENTS OR SOAPS ON YOUR TATTOO.
After your tattoo is healed (usually in 4 to 7 days), avoid sun tanning or use a 45 SPF or higher sunscreen for protection to help keep your colors bright. The better health you are in, the more moisture content of your skin, the less sun tan you have, the brighter your tattoo colors will be. Remember, your tattoo pigments are only as bright as your skin is light.
